Creative Backgrounds

Hello!  I hope you’re enjoying your summer. We’re in the full swing of things and enjoying the longer days.  We’ve also been doing a little travel.

We went home to Louisiana for my nephew’s birthday.  It happens to be on the 4th of July.  And since it’s hard sharing your birthday with a holiday, we try to do something extra special for him.  This year, we took him and his friends to an activity center.  It was a definite winner!

When I started to scrap the photos, I did my usual process:  select my photos, select a page kit and go. But as I started looking at the photos and thinking about their placement, I decided that my usual “boring” cardstock wouldn’t do.  I started looking at my patterned papers and found this cool zig-zag one that helped emphasize the randomness of 10-year-old driving.

These are some photos of my nephew on the Go Karts.  He had an awesome day with rock climbing, putt-putt golf, bumper cars and, of course, --- birthday cake and ice cream.  But these Go Karts were one of the big hits of the party.

So, here’s my challenge to you -- Instead of doing the usual and pulling out a piece of cardstock for the background of your layout, take a closer look at your patterned papers over and see if there’s a creative background you might use.

  1. Great layout and suggestion. I have tried using pattern paper as my background for a layout, and I agree, it really works.

  4. I love your layout. I don't use patterned papers enough as my background. I lack bravery! I'm working on it though!
