Back in 2012, our SOC founder, Classygirl introduced a wonderful feature highlighting bloggers that are active online and in the the SOC community. This popular feature is back, continuing to spotlight inspiring sistah bloggers who update regularly with wonderful creative projects.
I'm Katherine Blue, but only family calls me that.To scrappers, I am Kat or Kate. In 2004, I gave birth to a micro-preemie, an extremely sick boy who stayed hospitalized for almost a year. In 2005, he continued to heal, and we went through some other life changing events. My sister thought that scrapbooking would be a great way for me to de-stress and to get my feelings onto paper. I went with her to a crop (with no supplies since I had NEVER heard of scrapbooking) and was hooked! Six months went by before I jumped in and bought supplies, But I went to a few classes, and here I am--still loving everything about it seven years later.
Venturing into Blogging, and An Evil Queen...
I started blogging about four years ago as a way to show the scrapping publications/bloggers that there are scrappers of color (plus I am a huge fan of blogs & challenges) and to also just allow my family who all live far away to keep up with my family/everyday life. The Evil Queen on my blog is just because I've always loved Snow White and all things Disney from childhood -I truly am the Evil Queen or so my kids (a boy and a girl) say! I've never changed it because a friend created it for me and I'm not tech savvy and don't know how to change it LOL!
Talking "Signature Style" and Combating Creative Burnout...
I'm not sure if I have a signature style (cluttered maybe??) other than to say I love patterned paper, layers, bling, and shiny metallics! I love American Crafts and Heidi Swapp, but will scrap with anything. When I get a bit of burnout, I turn on some 80's music, then blog hop, or look on Pinterest, and it comes back! I am a HUGE fan of layouts and recycled projects, but just can't do cards no matter how hard I try. 2014 brought a little bit of mixed media, art journaling, and canvas work into my life and I hope to continue that in 2015.
A Word of Wisdom...
One piece of advice to my SOC readers is to get yourself IN the pictures ALL THE TIME and blog about what you love! I scrap/ blog for my children and future generations; I want them to know me through the good, bad, fat, skinny, happy and sad and I want them to know that I wasn't just the photographer; I lived it too!
Thank you for sharing with us Kate! What can your blog readers look forward to in 2015?
Thank you for getting to know me! In addition to my own blog (www.kateblue.blogspot.com), I am currently on two Design Teams for 2015: http://www.scrap-challenge-yourself.blogspot.com/ and http://www.scrapourstash.blogspot.com/ Two blogs that combine my two faves--using stash and getting YOU in the pictures! It would be awesome to see some "color" over there every month !!
Special thanks to our first featured blogger of 2015!! If you would like to see more of Kate's creations, be sure to click over on the links above! As Kate mentioned, she'd love to see ya!
