Hello crafty Friends Sharette here with my monthly post.. I wanted to bring a little tutorial and comparison to the two different brand of colored pencils that I use as my medium.. If you have followed me and my coloring you will know that my favorite and go to medium is my colored pencils. My main go to was and still is my Prisma Colored Pencils. Y'all know I am a prisma Girl.. I purchased a 120 set of Spectrum Noir colored pencils last year and I have been enjoying learning to use those as well.. So I thought I would do a little coloring comparison with the Two brands.
I used this little cutie "Curly Sue" from Simply Betty Stamps. She is the perfect head shots to use to practice coloring skin and hair. because really that's all she is. She is a digi that I printed on Card stock. I printed her 4 times on one sheet. Starting with my Prisma Colored pencils. Prisma are wax based pencils so the colors are soo smooth and just blend really nicely.. I do use my pencils with OMS (odorless Mineral Spirits) and blending stumps. for AA skin my go to color combo are : 1080 Beige Sienna, 945 Sienna Brown, 946 Dark Brown, 947 Dark Umber and to add highlights I used 1013 Deco Peach.
Here she is all blending and getting my shading and high lights in..
For her hair I went with Black and again my go to colors are: 935 Black 1053 Warm Gray 70%, 1050 Warm Gray 50% and 1063 Cool Gray 50 %. For the hair I always start with my darkest color. Using little flicking motion I go over all her curls and folds where its much darker.
Here she is with the second color added right below the darkest color again still using the flicking motion and coming out a little bit more.
Here She is all colored up! eyes. 941 Light Umber Cheeks 928 Blush Pink and 930 Magenta, Lips: 930 Magenta and 944 Henna, Dress: 1003 Spanish Orange and 1034 Golden Rod
For this one I colored her with my Spectum Noir. Now they are very popular with their Markers. But also has a set of 120 colored pencils.. Spectrum Noir pencils and both Wax and Oil based. which is also great.. The colors are also smooth and easy to blend. Sorry their is no specific names for them. Only Numbers.. I am still practicing and learning so. I can't say I have a specific set of skin color. But this is what I am using as for now. 89,91,95,104,109 with *004 for my high lights. He she is colored up.. for her hair Black: 120,119,116,114
Here she is completed. checks:27, lips, 25, Dress. 15,19,21 (I for got to color her eyes.. but you can used it to identify her as the Spectrum Noir.
And here they are side by side.. Looking at them I like the skin tone on the Spectrum Noir girl,, and I like the hair on the Prisma girl. I hope you have enjoyed and if your maybe thinking about trying either or both, hope full It had given you some ideas and comparison. As always please feel free to leave any comments or questions below. I have created several detailed tutorial on colored pencils (with my Prisma pencils) so if you feel like I missed or skipped over something please just scroll through the blog and see if you find them.
Happy Crafting
