Are scrapbookers always happy?

Is it just me or does it seem like scrapbookers are the happiest people in the world? As I look through scrapbook layouts in magazines, online galleries and blogs I usually see happy faces, happy occasions, and happy articles. At times I thought these folks were always happy. At one point it bothered me because I was not feeling so happy in life and was therefore, having a difficult time creating happy layouts. Then I thought about using this awesome hobby to express the real me and the real life my family and I lead. That means documenting some of the not so happy events in our lives. I may not share all of these layouts with others, but I will definitely include some in our family scrapbooks. That way, years from now, when we look back at our scrapbooks, they will be more representative of the “normal” life we had, full of ups and downs, happy occasions and not so happy occasions. Here is a layout I recently created.

NOT SO happy days by Camille. - Digital Paper & Elements: LittleDreamer

Have you ever scrapbooked the unhappy events in your life? If not, why not give it a try, it can be a very therapeutic experience.

  1. Very nice layout! Emotional. Yes, I have scrapbooked not so happy times. I agree that it is very therapeutic especially journaling those difficult times. And the great thing is that one day you will look back at this time and realize just how far you have come!

  2. Wonderful Layout! Although, I haven't scrapped an unhappy event, I have document several minus the photos. I'll have to try that!

  3. Love this post! I think it is great to document all of the significant moments of our life, and sometimes that will include the down times. I have pictures stored up to scrap the not so happy moments, but I have not scrapped them yet.

  4. Camille, I applaud your courage to not only scrap the unpleasant event, but to share it with others. I love the darkness and elements of confusion in the LO. It conveys the feelings of pain and loss.

  5. Great layout Camille. Yes, I scrapbook unhappy events in my life too, like you I don't always share these or post them. It's a way for me & my family to look back and see the trying times we made it through. Great post, TFS!

  6. Camille this is a very touching and inspiring LO. I love the how the background brings out the the whole story of being lost and confused, maybe even deep thought I have had alot of unhappy times but never thought to use them to move on. TFS

  9. Camille, this is such a beautiful page and its no coincidence that I was just sharing with a fellow scrapper that I was feeling a bit unhappy. I guess it time to scrap about the accident so I can start to move forward. Thanks for sharing this LO.

  12. I've scrapped unhappy events in my life - mostly dealing with death and memories. I agree it's therapeutic but I like to go back and read what I felt at certain times in my life. It seems like the older I get, the more things fade away. :-)
