SOC October Member of the Month

Welcome to our very first SOC "Member of the Month" feature.  Each month we will highlight a wonderful member of the SOC Family.  Someone who exhibits creativity and the wonderful principles of sistahood and support for the SOC Community.

This month we feature Mary Joyce.  She joined the SOC Family on October 13, 2009 and has spread support, kindness and encouragement, ever since.  She spreads her love through SOC by being a big advocate of SOC, participating in swaps, charitable events, hosting the Friday Night Chat, continuously leaving love in the gallery and encouraging members everywhere to enjoy their creativity.  She is the epitome of a wonderful sistah.  Join me in welcoming MJ as our first MEMBER OF THE MONTH.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

My name is Mary Joyce aka Dr.AABlackgurlsrock and I am the mother of one special daughter and one special pomerian dog.

Do you have a blog?

How long have you been crafting?

I have been crafting for a very long time but really got into scrapbooking/cardmaking about 15 or 16 yrs ago.

How did you get started?
I sparked an interest after I stopped doing ceremics when my cousin told me at a family reunion that she would go home and scrap her pictures right away. I went home and went to a Creative Memories party and have not stopped.

Where do you get your ideas/inspiration? 

My ideas and inspiration are mostly spontaneous after looking at an image,  but I do love looking at gallieries.

How do you describe your style?

I would say I don't have a specific style but if I had to chose one I would say Afrocentric/eccentric.

What is your favorite tool and why?

My favorite tool, since I love to color, is my copic markers.  Along with this I would say my Big Shot to cut spellbinders.

Who are your favorite paper crafters at this time? Why? 

I have no particular crafters that I follow, but I love the work of many of the SOC sisters.

Have you ever been published?

I am very new to challenges outside of SOC and blogging.  I am a DT member of Jackson's Digital Expressions, I have been published on SOC scrapbook Magazine, Top 3 at Brown Sugar a couple of times and Featured on Outlawz several times.

This is where MJ creates!  Look at all those wonderful stamps!

MJ's creativity simply makes me smile.  Her coloring techniques and desire to feature wonderful images that represent so many wonderful shades of brown make for fabulous, uplifting creations.
