Happy Cousins Day!

Hello All!  Renee here.  I am so excited to be making my first post to the Scraps of Color blog.  Did you know that tomorrow, June 24, is National Cousins day?  Cousin's Day honors your Aunt and Uncle's kids. They are those great kids who are likely close to your age, and endure the countless family get togethers with you. If it wasn't for cousins, these family events would be much, much longer.

In honor of Cousin’s day (and this great summer we are all enjoying), I decided to do a layout showcasing my daughter and her cousin during a family gathering at the beach.  And, since I didn’t have just the right embellishment on hand for the layout, I made my own using my Copic markers.  This is something I have been doing a lot lately.  I am a scrapbooker at heart, but I have a HUGE collection of markers. Making my own embellishments helps me use all of my supplies, so nothing gets hoarded.

My layout uses markers E13/15/18 for the skin and E 29/49 for hair (these are my favorite combos to use for AA people), B95/97 for the tube, Y15 for the stars on the tube, RV06/V17 for the swimsuit, RV00 for the pink lemonade, and YG99/Y15 for the hairbow.  Notice that I didn’t do a lot of extensive shading on this embellishment.  It is pretty small I used the same marker, colored over the original coloring in areas where I wanted slight shading, to give the look of having used multiple markers.  So if you are new to  Copics and don’t have an extensive collection yet, you can always darken areas by just coloring over them several times until you get the subtle shading you want.

Other supplies used  are:  Patterned papers-  Echo Park Playground collection and Jillibean Soup; Cardstock- Bazzill; Flowers-Prima; Star veneer-Studio Calico; Camera veneer-Prima; Chipboard/Mists-Heidi Swapp Color Shine; Die Cut Machine-Silhouette Cameo; Flair-American Crafts; Enamel Dots-My Minds Eye; Journaling Spot-Bo Bunny; Ticket-Tim Holtz; Digi Stamp-Mo’s Digital Pencil. I hope this layout has inspired you to use your Copics for more than just cards.
