A Little Copic Inspiration

Hello All!  Renee here with a little copic inspiration.  I know I’m late to the party, but I have recently fallen in love with the Prima Julie Nutting doll stamps.  When these first came out, they were marketed as mixed media stamps.  Since I am totally intimidated by the whole mixed media craze, I basically ignored them.  Recently, I saw quite a few really cute cards done with the Julie Nutting doll stamps.  A few weeks ago, my local scrapbook store got most of the new releases of these stamps in and began marketing them in the store for scrappers.  After spotting this natural haired beauty, I decided I could not live without her.  And since all girls need friends, I got a few others to keep her company.

Supplies:
Stamp: Prima Julie Nutting doll stamp (Taylor) Script stamp: Stamping Up  ; Copics: Skin-E13/15/18; Hair-E37/29/49; Pants/Headband-B93/95/95, Shadow on Skirt-E31; Shoes-C7/10; Clothing:Scraps fro Jillibean soup 6 x 6 pads and Crate Paper Pier collection; Tag base and stamps: Close to my Heart; Ribbons: Paper Studio; Flowers and Pearls: Prima.

I really like using these stamps.  I have found them so versatile to work with.  Instead of coloring the entire outfit, I find that I really like coloring the face and hair of them and then using bits and scraps from my papers to create their clothing.  Even though I am not a huge fan of fussy cutting, these stamps are easy to cut out.

For this particular tag, I wanted to try a more mixed media feel.  I used one of my script background stamps to add French script text across her skin areas.  To ensure that the text only stamped on her body, I masked off all areas other than the skin.  If you try this masking technique, be sure to press down really hard when stamping the text and perhaps use a really thin paper (like copy paper).  I found that the stamp only wanted to stamp off on the masked areas of my cardstock and not on the areas that I wanted.  I had to stamp it three times to get coverage on the skin.

I hope this tag has given you a little inspiration to try the mixed media stamps.  Don’t be put off by  the mixed media label.  They really can be used for scrapping and cardmaking too!

  1. Love this tag and what you did with the stamp. I got one recently as well. When the dust settles here, I'm hoping to get mine out and play with it a little. I have a journal cover in mind.
