It's a Boy" Baby shower card

Hello crafty friends, Sharette back with you for this months post.. I hope you are all enjoying the warmer days of spring.. I know I sure am, and it's hard to believe that the kids only have a few more weeks left for this school year, Summer will be here before you know it.

 



I wanted to share with you a very simple Baby Shower card that I made for a friend that is having a "Boy".. I was really excited to do a boy card, it seems lately all I have seen are little girls.. So it's nice to play wit some blues and greens for the 'gusy".. I used a die cut from "The Greeting Farms".. its called "Baby Onesies.. and it comes with one large die (of the Onesie) and four smaller dies, for you to embellish and decorate.  Along with the Die I used a Scrab book kit from "Me and My Big Ideas".. I have had it for a long time. so it was good to be able to use it for my card.. It came with DP and Stickers, and embellishments.

Here is a close up of the Die.. I used some of the same DP from the kit and along with the die cut, I ran it through my Cuddle Bug.. I added the little "bow tie" and the accent across the front.. Addd some stickers for buttons and that was it.

Here is the inside of my card.. again just using what came in the scrapbook kit. I always like to decorate the inside of my cards as well.

Got Pan Pastels??

I recently attended a stamp show and not only did stamps catch my eye but also a product called Pan Pastels. I really liked learning how to use it with VersaMark so I am excited to share the technique with you. 

I made two cards and this is one of them. Follow along to see how I created this quick and easy card.

 Here are the main products I used to create this cute little card. My card base was 8x4. I folded it in half to give me a 4x4 card. I used a double mat with the kraft colored card stock cut at 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 and the white card stock cut at 3 x 3.

 I inked up my CTMH "In the Background" stamp with VersaMark. 

 I decided to stamp the image at an angle along the bottom of the mat. 

 Next step is to take the pan pastel and go over the VersaMark. I used this sponge applicator that made it so easy. The pastel adhered to the area of the card stock with the VersaMark on it. 

 Here is a snap shot of the mat once the Pan Pastel was applied to the entire VersaMark surface. 

 I really liked the "smile" sentiment from the CTMH "Paper Bird" hostesses reward stamp set. I added the sentiment in black ink. 

 Here is a finished look at the mat. 

 I added my mat to the Kraft card stock mat which I had already attached to the center of my card base. (See finished card above and below)

 I decided to make another card but this time focusing on Graduation using the CTMH "Diploma Day" stamp set. In this example I used the coarse black/metallic Pan Pastel. It had chips of glitter in it. This one I applied the pastel to the entire card base. I really like how the sentiment stood out even though I covered the entire card. 

 Here is the finished graduation card. I love pink so I decided to stamp the cap in Pixie ink and pop it up with 3-D foam tape. I added a few sparkles to add flair. 

This is the finished first card and I love the simplicity. I added a few sequins to spice it up. I sprayed each card with glitter dust.

World Kindness Day!

Hello fellow crafters – We’re moving into the time of year where holidays abound.  My pantry is filled with fun-sized candy bars ready to give out on Halloween.  I’m already making the plan for Thanksgiving.  Fried turkey, anyone?  And Christmas cards are designed and ordered.  It got me wondering.  While there are some major holidays celebrated these last few months of the year, what are some of the more offbeat ones?

I checked and found out that November 13^th is World Kindness Day!  According to the website, here’s the purpose of it:

“World Kindness Day is to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us. Kindness is a fundamental part of the human condition which bridges the divides of race, religion, politics, gender and zip codes.”

Very nice!  I can’t believe this isn’t a special day that we pull out all the stops for.  Because to my way of thinking, the world needs all the kindness it can get.

So, in celebration of World Kindness Day, I’ve made a card I’m going to leave on my co-worker’s desk first thing on the morning of November 13^th.  She is usually running in the door having been caught up in Atlanta traffic.  I hope it puts a smile on her face!

 

I used raised adhesive dots on the circle and the emoticon.

Here, I matted a journaling card on the inside to write my message.

Father's Day Card Collage

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful Father's Day. For my post this month I thought I would try something different for a layout. I wanted to create a page using old store bought cards I've been collecting over the years. The covers and sentiments were so sweet that I just couldn't throw them away.

I decided to use a few of my favorite cards that my daughter has given her daddy over the years for Father's Day. Since the original cards had different textures and sizes, I started by scanning them. After they were scanned, I re-sized them and cut them out.

Next I printed out the photos I wanted to use, I chose two photos for my page. One from 1988 and one we took this past weekend for a "then and now" look. I printed them out using wallet size so they wouldn't cover too much of the background. Now all I had to do was put my layout together, add a few embellishments and my title.

Gratitude

One of my goals is to make more cards.  (Stop laughing, Tiare!)  No, really.  I have received some beautiful hand-made cards recently and my joy and pleasure in receiving them is something I want to pass along.  As a papercrafter, I know the time, attention and effort that go into making them.  And I should be spreading that enjoyment!

I thought I’d start with a simple “thank you” card.  It’s a sentiment that we don’t share nearly enough.  If you think about it, there is probably someone right now that you should express gratitude towards. 

I received a really nice 6x6 paper pack as a gift and thought it might be great for cards.  I tried to think of the card surface as a “mini” layout and included all the elements I normally would:  patterned paper, embellishments and, of course, Thickers!  I love the sparkly brads I pulled from WAAAY back in my stash.

Game Night Thank You Cards

Recently, I went to a game night party hosted by some friends.  In the middle of a hilarious game of Pictionary, I had an idea for thank you cards.  Some of the drawings that people created were easily identifiable while others were a far stretch on the creative license spectrum.  Some of the sketches were so outrageous!  At the end of the night, I asked to keep a few sketches from the game.  I later used those sketches to create thank you cards for the event.  (I eventually gave the cards to the hosts....hmm, thank you cards as a thank you gift?! Is that weird?)  I suppose instead of thank you cards the sketches can be used to make invitations for the next party, simply by changing the sentiment on the inside.

The cards were easy to make, I just cut down each of the sketches to a size that fit on a card front, added a speech bubble and question mark stamp, and embellished it with a little ribbon.  I printed the inside sentiment with my inkjet printer.  Super simple!

Thanksgiving Traditions

 

Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving Tradition? In my family we all hold hands and pray before the meal.  And love that there is always Turkey and Dressing and family from far and near. It would not be thanksgiving without my sister JoAnn’s Secret-To-A-Happy-Marriage yeast Rolls. We pour over the sale ads and plot our attack. We watch football, talk baseball and track (players in the family). We remember those we love who are no longer with us and give thanks for those who are.

But my favorite tradition is a crafty one. I try to mail out my Christmas cards on Black Friday. My friends tell me that my card is the first card they receive. Most years I make it. This year I have been working hard to meet my deadline. Here is what I have come up with so far.

I generally made multiples of each design but I won’t bore you with that.

Create Your Sunshine

Happy September SOC!

I am feeling sunny and happy although September marks the close of summer.   The days are getting shorter or shall I say, the daylight is getting shorter.  However, there's still plenty of sunshine inside, especially when you fill your days with creativity.

I try to make time to craft several days a week, if not each day.  It sure helps to brighten the gloomiest of days.  Today, I share a "happy"  card I created using leftovers from the layout I shared with you on August 1st.  For me every layout, should have a card.

If you know me, then you know when I create a layout, I create a card.  It's the best way for me to use up leftovers, get good use of my papers and not feel the need to hold onto the scraps. To keep it simple, I typically use a sketch I created as inspiration for the layout and for the card.  Cute, unique, quick and PRETTY...everytime.

Ideas to note:  I cut the flowers from the patterned paper and popped them up for a fun, dimensional look. Ink the edges to make flowers stand out more.
